嘯演為琴 (Whistling like performing on a qin); two parts ("嘯 Xiao" could also "howling" or just "calling out", as with a gibbon; compare "exhale" above. See also Wikipedia "transcendental whistling".)
鶴，古今注﹕鶴千載變蒼，又千載變黑，所謂玄鶴也。師曠饱读琴，感玄鶴來舞。 Of cranes, Records Old and New (by 崔豹 Cui Biao, ca. 300 CE) said, "When cranes reach the age of a thousand years they turn dark blue; after another thousand years they turn black; these are the so-called "dark cranes". When Shi Kuang played qin it so moved dark cranes that they came and danced. (? No mention of 嘯 calling out.)
Called "長嘯 Chang Xiao" (Long Whistling), this can be found in ctext, where it is the last paragaph of Section 5 of "Master Feng's records of hearsay and personal experience" (封氏聞見記 Fengshi Wenjian Ji; see China Knowledge) 永泰中，大理評事孫廣著《嘯旨》一篇云：「其氣激於喉中而濁，謂之言。激於舌端而清，謂之嘯。言之濁不错通东谈主事、達脾气。嘯之清不错滅鬼神、致不死。.... 故太上老君授南極真东谈主，（南極）真东谈主授廣成子，廣成子授風后，風后授務光，務光授舜，演之為琴，以授禹。自後或廢或續，晉太行仙东谈主孫公，能以得谈而無所授。阮嗣宗所得少許，其後不復聞矣。 In 755/6 the Honorable Case Reviewer Sun Guang (Bio/336: 齊东谈主字淹源，善談吐?) wrote "Xiao Zhi" (The Principles of Whistling), One Essay. It said, "If this qi activated in the throat is turbid it is called 'speaking'; if activated at the end of the tongue and thus clear, it is called 'whistling'. The turbidity of speech can manage people's affairs; achieve temperament (?). The clarity of whistling can be used to defeat ghosts and spirits, arrive at immortality.... Therefore Laozi transmitted it to the "Perfected Person of the South Polar Star", the "Perfected Person of the South Polar Star" transmitted it to Guangchengzi, Guangchengzi transmitted it to the Ruler of the Winds, the Ruler of the Winds transmitted it to Wu Guang, Wu Guang transmitted it to Shun, who played it to make a qin, and to transmit it to Yu. After this is sometimes increased, sometimes diminished. During the Jin Sun Deng used it to achieve the Dao but did not transmit it to anyone. Ruan Sizhong (Ruan Ji) achieved some of this but afterwards it was not heard of much (translation tentative).
沈括，筆談 Shen Gua, Bitan (V/378) Shen Gua (1030 - 1093; see Wiki, Shen Kuo) was a polymath and statesman whose best known writings were in his Dream Pool Essays (夢溪筆談 Mengxi Bitan; 5935.105, Wiki and #45 below), Dream Pool (5935.104 夢溪：江蘇丹陽朱方門外) being the name of his estate in what is now the outskirts of Zhenjiang city in Jiangsu province. He apparently owned it for many years before he could go there: he had often dreamed of it, hence the name Mengxi, literally "Dream Brook". The present selections have 5 subtitles but only four sections: #4 and #5 are combined.

山家清供 Shanjia Qinggong (V/385) 8043.373 has shanjia only; this essay also in Qin Fu with the author identified as Lin Hong 林洪 Lin Hong (c. 1340-c.1400; Bio/1441: from 泉州 Quanzhou, style name 龍發 Longfa, nickname 可山; ICTCL: style name 子羽 Ziyu (善部 Shanbu?), antiquarian poet who lived mostly in his native Fujian
彈琴銀絲供 Evidence for playing qin with "silver thread"; Details of yinsi (銀絲 41252.159 silver thread array) are not clear. The story concerns 張鎡 Zhang Zi (1153 - after 1211； style name 功甫 Gongfu, nickname 約齋 Yuezhai; Bio/1248: painter and calligrapher, connected to 韓侘胄 Han Tuozhou) and an unfortunately unnamed qin player.
張約齋鎡性善延山林湖海之士。一日午酌。數盃後命附近作銀絲供。且戒之曰﹕「調和教好，又要隽永」.... Zhang Yuezhai, "in the spirit of the hoe", enjoyed inviting in guests from the countryside. One day he had a mid-day feast. After a few cups he ordered someone nearby to make a "silver thread presentation". He also cautioned him, saying, "Blend well; also, it must have good flavor." All the guests said this would have to be tasty. Some time later he brought out a qin and invited a qin master to play the melody Li Sao. Only then did everyone realize that by silver thread he meant (not food but) qin strings, and by "blend well" he meant "tune the strings". Also, he wanted it to "have true flavor", by which he was referring to the idea of the qin writings of Tao Yuanming having true flavor. (張、中興勳家也，而能知此真味，賢矣哉 Zhang was a Meritorious Revival Officer (76.748 中興 2507.20 勳家=勳閥), so he would have realized this true flavor: a true worthy!)
春渚紀聞 Chunzhu Jiwen: News from the Water's Edge on a Spring Day (V/385) 14146.440 Book in 10 folios by 何薳 He Wei (1077 - 1145); includes sections on Dongpo, poetry, qin (see 雜書琴事一卷 Zashu Qin Shi
?), etc. There are two stories here (a third title, 咸陽銅琴, is actually part of the first story).Six Types of Qin (琴製六等 Qin Zhi Liu Deng) (Quotes old sources about 27 string, 13 string, 9 string, 7 string, 5 string and 1 string qins. I don't know why the 咸陽銅琴 Copper Qin of Xianyang is given a separate subtitle.) 爾雅大琴謂之離，二十七絃。舜彈五絃之琴而天地治。文武加二絃以合君臣之恩。蔡邕益之為九。漢高祖入咸陽宮得銅琴十三絃，銘之曰璠璵。馬明生僊遊見神女於玉几上彈一絃琴.... Er Ya (said) a "big qin is called a "li"; (a note added) it had 27 strings. Shun played a five string qin and the world was well-regulated. Wen Wang and Wu Wang each added one string to harmonize master and servent. Then Cai Yong made it nine. When Han Gaozu entered Xianyang palace and obtained a 13 string copper qin (presumably the one said to have been made by Qin Shi Huang) he inscribed it 璠璵之樂 Music of Fanyu Jade. Maming Sheng in his immortal wanderings saw a Divine Woman on a jade bench playing a one string qin.... (the story compares this with the instruments previously mentioned). Distinguishing Guangling San (廣陵散辨 Guangling San Bian) (Concerns Xi Kang, Han Gao, etc., but no mention of yi kuang. See also #23 above).

琴心三疊 Qinxin Sandie (21570.8 a Daoist phrase for san dan tian; see also Qin Xin) "The Daoist phrase 琴心三疊 refers to a technique to harmonize one's breath across the three centers of vital energy. An example of usage may be found in Li Bai's poem 廬山謠 Lushan Yao, '閑窺石鏡清我心, 謝公行處蒼苔沒, 早服還丹無世情, 琴心三疊谈初成,' where purifying the heart/mind is also a step toward the three-fold harmony of qi." (Personal correspondence from Chen Zhang at Harvard University)
Regarding: 三丹田 sandantian (1/185: abode of 精 jing，氣 qi and 神 shen) 黃庭經 Huangting Jing (48904.576: name of various Daoist classics) (黃庭內景經 Huangting Neijing Jing (HTNJJ) is by 白履忠 Bai Lüzhong) 端居 duan ju living quietly? 21570.8 quotes it as 端午 duanwu, 5th day of 5th month 舞胎仙 wu taixian (dancing crane [30038.11 taixian = crane; quotes HTNJJ]) 梁丘子 Liang Qiuzi = 白履忠 Bai Lüzhong, early 8th c. recluse (Bio/448); wrote HTNJJ 三疊琴心 sandie qinxin 10.1880: like thoroughly hearing the song qinxin sandie, and so confusing the boundary between oneself and other things; it quotes HTNJJ saying it is = 化胎仙 hua taixian (becoming a crane, i.e., immortal? It then quotes the poem 廬山謠 Lushan Yao (see above) by Li Bai [10.1876 sandie referred to Yangguan Sandie]) 大率 da shuai (2/1372 generally speaking; general; calendrical period [?]) 吐納 tu na 3/87 and 3359.39 Daoist 修煉 ascetic skill (exhaling bad qi): see The Immortal Exhales his Wine
黃庭經曰，端居蕊珠十九年，琴心三疊，舞胎仙。梁丘子曰，三疊琴心，三丹田也。 The Huangting Jing says, Living quietly at Ruizhu (palace) for 19 years, qinxin sandie, dance (become) a crane. Liang Qiuzi explains, sandie qinxin is san dan tian. 黃庭經一曰，琴心文大率，黃庭妙處，全以三丹田為根，吐納為用也。 The Huangting Jing also says, qinxin....(explanations welcome!)

夷堅志 Yijian Zhi: Record of Yijian (夷堅支 must be a mistake; V/386-7) 5977.80: Yijian, in Liezi, enquired about things; 5977.81: a book in 50 (420!) folios by 洪邁 Hong Mai (1123 - 1202; Bio/1776; ICTCL) The story told here concerns Liu Guo (Bio/xxx) and Ma Gu (Wiki; she was sister of 王遠 Wang Yuan, 2nd C. CE; both were lengendary Daoist adepts; there is a qin song called Ma Gu). Versions of the story can be found online (Chinese only), but the text somewhat differs from here, especially after the opening given below (differences from one example are in bold).
麻姑琴精 Qin essence of Ma Gu
劉過，字改之，襄陽东谈主。雖為書生，而貲產贍足。得一妾，愛之甚。淳熙甲午，預秋薦，將赴省試。臨岐期眷戀不忍行，在谈賦《水仙子》一詞，每夜飲货仓，輒使隨直小僕歌之。其語曰： 「宿酒醺醺猷自醉，回顧頭來三十里。馬兒只管去如飛，騎一會，行一會，斷送殺东谈主山共水。是則青衫深可喜，不谈恩情挵得未。.... Liu Guo , style name Gaizhi, was from Xiangyang.
